A bit about me...
,
Coach - Mentor - Author
Qualified coach and teacher. Member of the Association for Coaching for 19 years.
Dyslexia trained to support adults.
Published author of two self-help books and a feature writer for The Times, Telegraph, Guardian, Independent and numerous websites.
I've worked in personal development for over 35 years, first as a teacher and then as a coach.
My experience as a coach.
I've been a coach for 19 years. I work with private clients. I've also supported clients through their employers.
Because of my background in education and my knowledge of higher education, or other training, career coaching is my specialism.
My experience includes clients in senior management, self-employed business owners, clients who want a complete career change.
I also work with clients who artists, writers, or have other creative interests who want to develop those into a new career.
My work with clients is as varied as they are.
Performance at work, communication skills, time-management, behavioural change, confidence, negative beliefs and career change.
I use techniques including SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timely), and CBC (Cognitive Behavioural Coaching.)
How did I come to coaching?
My career began as a teacher when I moved from the north-east to teach in Surrey.
I taught English to A-level in an independent school, linked to Gordonstoun, with a focus on all-round personal development.
As this was a boarding and day school, and I was a residential teacher, I was involved in pastoral care.
Relocating to Hertfordshire, I taught and mentored dyslexics, including adults, for many years.
As a volunteer, I distance-coached and mentored students at Manchester Metropolitan University.
When my children moved onto university, I began to feel ready to make changes to my own career and work-life balance.
Coaching ticked a lot of boxes - nurturing and encouraging clients to move forwards - similar to teaching in some ways.
I studied for a Diploma in Personal Life Coaching. This took a year and 50 hours of coaching practise with clients.
My work as a writer
As an education expert I wrote two self-help for parents and students.
This launched my career as a writer, focusing on careers, education, family and wellbeing.
I have written for all the broadsheets and many other publications and websites.
I contributed regular career features to the Independent.
Now, I mentor and coach writers alongside career coaching.
Training and experience
I enjoy spending time with my two adult children, walking to keep fit, reading and working on my novel.

The coaching I received from Glynis allowed me to review my current situation, take stock and consider the options. Then, to open my eyes to a clear way forward when previously I was muddled and indecisive. RB, Herts |
Running the same business for over 20 years, I needed to step back and make some difficult decisions about my next career steps. Glynis was able to coach me through this.. AL, Herts |
"Having reached a point where I was able to consider a life change I realised that I didn't know how to go about it. Glynis helped me develop a strategy for identifying what areas I could realistically consider. I now feel I have solid direction. AS Herts |
